Apologia
The first of my own two sharpest criticisms of this Web site
is that it is and will probably long remain a changing pastiche of un-constructed
concept sketches and new, stale and abandoned topic-structures mixed in with the
material we all seem to want that needs a common presentation site.
In that regard it will always be a bit confusing and inconsistent. It
will be both a "production" support service and developmental area at the same
time -- which is never a happy marriage, at least, in my own
experience. This is a developmentally oriented group, however, so I
presume a degree of tolerance and patience.
I
have added a task to an already long list that reads: "Development/Production Switch:
Find a way to maintain one versioned Web site source file-set but to expose different aspects depending upon the viewer identity.
Or find a way to simplify creation of two source file-sets by means of a logical switch,
starting from only one master source file-set."
This task was added by on 6/21/2001.
Until that task is complete, I believe that the marginal staff time and
equipment cost to maintain two entirely separate sites is too high to justify
alongside far more pressing needs. Those who disagree are invited to take
issue. The
second of my criticisms is more of a keen disappointment that a site I believe to be so rich
with promise for all of us could not be more artfully and effectively produced. I
pretend no special skills for producing or maintaining Web sites. I simply
have the personal motivation to try to learn what's necessary to put one
together. Here
again, however, given available resources and prioritized needs, I do not think
we can justify the marginal cost to effect substantive improvement yet.
But that time may come sooner than I expect. please feel free to comment. Sincerely
& With Regards and Empathy, Jim James
