Special-rate rooms must be booked by October 29th. Group transportation from Buffalo is a possibility if there's enough interest expressed on local lists. This is one of the established premier annual conference events within the global R&E advanced network development community. And it's right in our back yard. See the conference Site for details. February 18th and 19th, 2002: Canadian National E-Learning Workshop, Montreal, Canada. Fall/Spring
2001: Region of Peel, Public Sector
Dark Fiber Build Visit, date TBD. We plan to
organize a group visit to the Region of Peel, just West of Toronto to meet Roy
Wiseman and to learn about the extraordinary regional Public Sector Dark Fiber
build that he and his team have underway. Roy is Director of Information
Technology Services for the Region of Peel and his presentation at last year's
CANARIE conference on issues, problems, roadblocks, economics, politics, and
benefits associated with public benefit regional Dark Fiber builds, while not
embracing private investment, was among the best I heard. We've already
established contact with Roy and he's looking forward to a visit. Review
his presentation and stay
tuned to local lists for planning details.
Every Thursday @ 10:00 - Extended Grand Rounds Test Sessions: Every Thursday, starting at about 10:00 AM EDT (GMT-4), some number of our collaborators on our Extended Grand Rounds project meet on-line to conduct tests and trials. Our intentions are to systematically work on the problems and issues whose solutions will improve our ability to support high quality shared inter-institutional medical/dental Grand Rounds. We also try to allow time for ad-hoc discussions among technical support staff and among medical staff at participating institutions. This is an evolving project, defined and shaped by the active participants. As of 6/6/2001, the primary collaborators are Ohio State University, SURFnet in the Netherlands, University of Rochester, Upstate Medical University, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration offices in Washington, DC, the Erie County Medical Center and the UB/WNY-HPNVI. We hope to have the University of Erlangen in Germany join us soon. We generally use a campus telephone audio conference bridge for verbal coordination between site operators but maintain live streams of any activity. See 24/7 LIVE STREAMS for instructions on how to access the streams. Tuesday, 9/25 @ 11:00 EDT: Megaconference-III and Virtual Internet2 Member Meeting Rehearsal: See our Megaconference-III page for program details and connection instructions.
