From: "Bob Dixon" To: "The Megaconference" ; ; "Video Development Initiative" Subject: Second Megaconference/Commons MCU Load Test Date: Tuesday, August 14, 2001 11:37 AM The second (and hopefully final) MCU and network load test will be held on Wednesday August 22, starting at 11 AM EDT. We need everyone in the world to connect to our MCU bank at that time, with as many H.323 clients as possible. Your video conferencing system does not need to be monitored by you during the test. You can just connect it and then ignore it if you wish. Of course you can also watch what happens and participate in the real-time discussion of how things are going, if you wish. If you have multiple systems, connect them all. We will be closely monitoring the MCUs and the network during the test. Hopefully the problems we had during the first test have been fixed, and all will go well. All the MCUs will be cascaded together so everyone should be able to talk to everyone. The test will run for about 2 hours, or until we get the data we need, or until we have a chance to fix whatever problems show up. Last time we had about 80 clients call in, and we need about 110 to fully load all the MCUs that will be tested. So PLEASE sock it to us with everything you've got! Please use hardware codecs only; no NetMeeting or CU-SeeMe etc. The speed will be 384K. We will distribute detailed dialing instructions as we get closer to the date of the test, so please watch this space for further announcements. Please send me email if you plan to be in the test. telling me how many clients you will be connecting. That will enable us to plan things better. These tests are very important for not only the Megaconference and the Commons, but for the H.323 state of the art. There is no other way to realistically test everything and find out where the weak points are, or to show that everything really does work well, and we are ready for heavy-duty production. We cannot do it without your help. Bob Robert S.
