KALEIDA Hospitals Breaks Out
from Behind Firewall!

5/31/2001

This was another breakthrough milestone event!  Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds are now hosted at Buffalo General Hospital, a KALEIDA Hospital, and that's one of our next targets for inclusion in our living-laboratory Extended Grand Rounds demonstration/trial project.  The connectivity was achieved with H.320 Gateways to interconnect H.323 endpoints and MCU's, so you could say we cheated a bit.  A lot of work and time investments remain before we manage to achieve direct H.323 and stream connectivity through their firewall but it's a beginning.  Until now, we had not been able to inter-connect our Zones even with Gateways.

Bill Schmidt and Steve Rukavina, with the KALEIDA Hospitals Biomedical Engineering Department, the day they were first seen outside their firewalled institutional network on 5/31/2001 . The setup was a Polycom Viewstation -> Ezenia MCU & GW -> RADVision GW & MCU -> Zydacron Z360. Yea team!
