Hinni, Here are a few talking points that I would use. Sorry to be so late and brief; we've been working round-the-clock on various last minute problems. There *will* be a show, if not exactly as described, then structurally very similar with variations resulting from unresolved & unexpected problems. Thanks so much for all of your support. Regards, Jim At end of Nursing Presentation: Whitlock: 60 seconds for a round of thanks to those who made it happen Materns: 120 seconds for any wrap-up comments you may want to offer Talking Points: - This really is an I2 application; we're just getting away with it today on I1 (taking advantage of headroom in the I1 infrastructure). Videoconferencing and streaming video at these quality levels require constant/steady bandwidth (isochronous) that QOS and/or bandwidth reservation, to be developed on I2, will provide. - This is *emerging* technology; still very complex and difficult to work with but that will rapidly change. - People and institutions take a long time to adopt/adapt while technology evolves quickly. [Email now almost 30 yrs old and 20-30% of our own are still uncomfortable with it -- most say that's a conservative est] This was a limited *preview* of what will be easily and readily available in the modest near-term. Time to set strategic sights. - School of Nursing faculty have long been courageously in the forefront of those attempting to use high ROI emerging technologies to accomplish their academic and instructional visions. Kudos to them. - Major universities and university systems in North America are now aggressively building test/trial and deployment infrastructures in preparation for academic and instructional uses of these technologies. - The BA Diffusion Fund grant will this year add 135 new endpoints in the WNY Region with appropriate Internet bandwidth to begin to explore practical applications for IP VC & streams. We will be part of that project, at least on the planning side. The IAIMS grant planning group has also expressed strong interests. - Early uses, due to infrastructure and technology expenses and difficulties (which Skunkworks is focused on reducing), will necessarily be limited to highest ROI applications: medicine, distance education, etc. Will become commonplace more rapidly than most are prepared for. - I personally expect these communications tools, due to their visceral pull, to become as entrenched in all aspects of life as has been the case with telephony. We would have added visual to verbal long ago if we had had the means; shortly we will. - I'll try to cover the major thank-you's but here are *some* of them: Ohio State University, The Jackson Laboratory, The UB School of Nursing, The Erie County Medical Center, Cisco Inc., Buffalo Computer Graphics Inc., RADVision Inc., Zydacron Inc, and a large number of staff and staff groups who have responded with enormous and unexpected enthusiasm to the challenges we've been facing. This has really been very much like the earlier more pioneering days of IT when we all used to routinely join forces to overcome difficulties. A marvelous and refreshing experience.
