Meeting SIG: The Bethlehem Alliance: A Public Benefit Internet Development Effort in Palestine and Western New York, a presentation delivered to the Internet2 2005 Fall Member Meeting, Special Interest Group (SIG) for Supporting International Collaborations in Hard to Network Parts of the World, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, September 21, 2005. This was the first public presentation on the Bethlehem Alliance that has been delivered to an audience outside of Western New York. It was exceptionally well received. Two other Internet2 groups expressed tentative interest in presentations at the Spring Member meeting. The SIG seemed to tacitly agree that "Hard to Network Parts of the World" frequently suffer under a common constellation of severe problems including: poverty, hunger, poor health, disease, violent conflict and unstable corrupt government. Member Meeting, in Washington, DC. Minutes from that meeting have been
posted on-line and reflect a tentative interest in considering the public
benefit application space as part of the SIG mission and vision. SIG members responded
positively to short one-on-one descriptions of the Bethlehem Alliance project
and vision and the SIG chair expressed interest in a presentation at the next
(Fall 2005) SIG meeting. |
