Dear All,
20050115 1415
This is the beginning of a new site intended to be the working home of both The
Bethlehem Alliance and the natural extension of the public benefit
regional IP-video development work of the University at Buffalo's Western New York High Performance Networked Video
Initiative (WNY-HPNVI). It seems likely that it will also start to include
support material for some activities of the WNY Partnership for Regional
Internetworking (WNY-PRI), which grew out of the WNY-HPNVI. Not to worry
about the various groups and hard-to-say names. At the end of the day,
we're all trying to do the same thing -- to realize the large and
compelling public benefit promises for next generation Internet applications and
technologies in education, healthcare, the arts and government service.
Among the most promising next generation applications and technologies are those loosely referred to as
IP-video and they are the primary focus of most of our early adopter groups. Our general common objectives are to
illuminate the edges of the envelopes of practicality in order to accelerate
cost effective and meaningful deployments that deliver tangible public
benefit results. Our methods are low-cost, entirely facilitative and
supportive efforts that serve to increase development rates and to reduce service
delivery times.
These are the first few hours of this site's life; please treat it as you would
an infant -- with tolerance and expectations for continuing change. I'll
be using it for a while as an unpublicized on-line shared repository of material
of value to some of the people and groups starting to form around this effort.
As time permits, I'll also try to nudge the site towards more of an easy to use
and maintain presence and support facility for all of our various
constituencies: interested passers-by, newcomers, veteran early adopters,
technical support resources, project working groups and decision makers.
To the extent that occurs, it will be slow and over a long time. Please
bear with me. This is not my particular forté.
Best Regards,
Jim
